A short overview of the traffic on the mailer lines - the lines that

Incidently, Line 1 is the normal line for modem access to the mailbox.
It permits a maximum transfer rate of 33,600 characters per second
(V.34plus protocol). Line 2 is the fax line of the system, hooked up to
an old ZyXEL modem. With another ZyXEL, this line permits a maximum
transfer rate of 19,200 characters per second, otherwise only 14,400.
Lines 3 to 6 are the ISDN lines of the system. Lines 7 and 8 use the
V.90 protocol. This means that you can reach a maximum download transfer
rate of 56,000 characters per second on these using a modem. ISDN
connections can also be made to these two lines. The X2 protocol is
additionally available on Line 7. This is only of interest to those who
have older US Robotics modems that were not yet equipped with the V.90
protocol. Finally there are lines 9 and 10. These are the IP lines that
you can use to dial into the system, for example to connect to the
mailbox by telnet.
